The thing I love most about engagement sessions is that it gives the couple a chance to work with me before the big day. Over the course of about two hours, we get to know one another AND we get to make some awesome photos together. The rapport we build during the engagement session always helps to relieve some of the wedding day jitters because my couples already know that we work well together and that I have their back for the big day!

Not long ago I met up with Ambar and Mark for their Orange County engagement photography session. We decided to start the session in Downtown Santa Ana, right near the Estate on Second because we love it’s urban, yet picturesque, scenery.  I love scheduling multiple locations for engagement sessions whenever possible because it gives us a lot of textures and colors to work with and results in a lot of variety for the photos.

I always encourage my couples to bring along at least one formal outfit for their session because I feel it takes the overall look of the photos to the next level. I was SO excited when I saw Ambar arrive in her stunning red dress and some classic black Jimmy Choos. She looked absolutely incredible and Mark looked slick in his outfit choice as well.

For the second half of the session, we went to a local wilderness park to catch the sunset. Mark told me he’d brought a bottle of champagne as a prop and wanted to incorporate it into the photos as well. We worked our way around some of my favorite photo spots and even managed to capture the moon in one of our shots! I love when that happens! We saved the champagne for last. I set up the lights and then Mark let ‘er rip! It turned out to be everyone’s favorite shot of the night!

Here are some of my favorite photos from Mark & Ambar’s engagement session:
