Whimsical Brunch Wedding at The French Estate in Orange, CA

As an Orange County wedding photographer, I feel lucky to say that every wedding I photograph has its own kind of magic. This past March, I had the pleasure of photographing a stunning brunch wedding at The French Estate in Orange, CA, and it’s one I’ve been excited to share ever since.

There is something about a brunch wedding that feels effortlessly relaxed. Just as the sun climbed high over Orange County, A & J were exchanging vows under a bright spring sky at The French Estate – and honestly, it was such a joy to photograph.

If you’ve never visited, The French Estate in Orange, CA is one of those venues that does half the work for you. The property is split beautifully between a manicured front lawn, ideal for a classic outdoor ceremony, and a garden-style backyard for cocktail hour and reception. Both spaces share the same romantic, old-world charm that gives couples room to make the day their own, whether that’s a traditional evening affair or a relaxed daytime celebration like this one.

The French Estate: An Orange County Wedding Venue with a Rich History

The estate also has a rich history. Originally built in the late 1800s and later remodeled in the early 1900s, the home takes its name from Judge French, who once lived there and began opening the property for weddings, marrying couples in his own home. That same spirit carries through today, more than a century later, with couples still exchanging vows on the very grounds where the tradition began. Step inside and you’ll find the home furnished with vintage, Victorian-era pieces that give every indoor photo a timeless, storybook quality.

A White and Lavender Wedding Color Palette

The ceremony took place on The French Estate’s front lawn; while cocktail hour unfolded in the garden-style backyard, giving the whole day a lush, romantic backdrop from start to finish.

At the ceremony, arrangements of blue, white, and purple flowers lined the aisle leading up to a wooden hexagonal arch decorated with the same spring flowers. White resin folding chairs were adorned with gold ribbons for a simple yet styled look.

Meanwhile, the reception design details brought the whole palette to life at every place setting: lavender linens, cornflower blue napkins, and gold charger plates set the tone for each table. Each centerpiece showcased a bouquet of spring florals in white, purple, and blue paired with classic and simple candlesticks. The centerpieces were just enough to add beauty, while still allowing conversation to flow naturally across the tabletops. The mix of cool lavender and blue against warm gold accents gave the whole reception a soft, elevated feel – romantic without being overly done.

Rather than the usual evening reception timeline, A & J’s brunch wedding allowed their wedding to run at a different pace. With a brunch celebration, there’s less of a rush: no ticking clock toward sunset formals, no tight window between ceremony and reception, just a relaxed pace that let the day breathe. Guests weren’t rushing from one moment to the next, and that ease shows in the photographs.

A brunch wedding also opens up the timeline in ways that a traditional evening wedding doesn’t allow for. Couples have more flexibility with vendor scheduling, guests aren’t fighting fatigue by the time dinner rolls around, Romantic portraits could even be reserved for after the celebration with more flexibility over time and lighting, and the entire event can wrap up while everyone still has energy to celebrate – no late-night goodbyes required.

A Fairytale Reception: Disney-Inspired Decor and Magical Entertainment

Reflecting the couple’s shared love of all things Disney, each table number featured a hand-drawn illustration of iconic Disney couples. As guests found their seat assignments, they were welcomed with artwork featuring Simba & Nala, Lady & Tramp, Tarzan & Jane, and Perdita & Pongo. The sweetheart table had an illustration all it’s own: Belle & Prince Adam, reserved just for the newlyweds.

It was a subtle nod to happily-ever-after, woven into the day without feeling too on-the-nose. Elegant, a little playful, and completely them. To keep guests entertained throughout the event, the couple brought in two unique touches: A magician and a live sketch artist.

Throughout the cocktail hour and reception, Richard the Magician left guests in awe with close-up sleight-of-hand. The couple even incorporated a magic trick into their grand entrance!

Meanwhile, the sketch artist created unique keepsake portraits for guests to take home. In contrast to traditional favors, custom watercolor portraits are a highly personalized gift that guests actually want to take home and keep.

Weddings like this one are exactly why I love being an Orange County wedding photographer. A & J’s wedding day was full of personal touches, from the hand-drawn Disney-inspired illustrations to the relaxed, unhurried pace of a brunch celebration, and it all came together in a way that was genuinely, unmistakably theirs.
