A couple months ago I met up with Emilie and Christopher for their super romantic Crystal Cove engagement photos.

The couple chose this location because it's a place that's special to them. I love it when couples do this because it helps to add an extra personal element to both the engagement session experience and the resulting images!

For their first outfits: Emilie chose a beautiful off the shoulder dress with a tropical floral pattern, so cute! Christopher went with jeans, a white undershirt, and a charcoal gray v-neck sweater - this is a great photo shoot look for most guys because it's dressy but not too complicated to pull together!

I always like to start out my engagement sessions with a mini crash course in a few basic "posing" instructions and we start off with easy stuff, like walking hand in hand and playing little games. This helps my couples feel more relaxed in front of the camera early on in their session and helps us get great photos! After a little bit, I start adding a little more direction to help ensure great photos that are also flattering!

I was so happy when we arrived and saw that there would be beautiful clouds available on the day of this session! Clouds create the opportunity for us to make some epic photos that have a really dramatic sky!

About halfway through my engagement sessions we take a quick break so that the couple can change into a different outfit. I love doing this because it helps to create more variety to the overall set of pictures and it's great for couples who want both a casual and formal look. If you plan to do this for your engagement pictures, I recommend saving your more formal outfit for sunset!

For their secondary outfits: Emilie chose a super cute open back, suede dress in royal blue and a cute pair of heeled sandals. Chris chose a classic looking suit and a soft pink tie. They both looked so classy!

I love the way the wind kicked up right as I took this shot of their kiss. It gives the image a whimsical, swept away feeling!

Ahh! I can't get enough of all the romantic golden light in the sky right before sunset!

I loved the way the light was reflecting off of the rocks on the beach, so I decided to create an ultra wide angle shot and use the rocks as a foreground element that added dimension to the image.

I love closing out the session with a few dramatic images. These types of images make for great wall art, closing images for photo books, wedding announcements and displays and they're just plain FUN!
